Magazine article and more context

A few months ago a friend of mine asked if she could interview me for a new Christian magazine. Please follow the link to read about the article to give some more context to what I say next...

Opening our HOME!

What amazes me now is that the article and interview happened before we went to court the first time and before we knew that one of the kids had to have surgery and... the plot has thickened and the cost bigger than we originally anticipated in our heads... the journey emotionally, spiritually and financially has been more than we anticipated.  We have had to look at our coping as marriage partners in a whole new way... we lean on each other a lot more than ever before.  It has been tough!

BUT...

All this to say we have seen the miraculous play out and we have seen things happen that make us smile for days.  We desperately want to be able to share the personal stories and the photos and the victories... we will do this soon!

At this point we are not sure what the future of our NGOs look like, simply because we had no idea how much time this new family we took on would take of us.  We had no idea how it would exhaust us... but we are happy to say we are feeling more awake again.  We love these kids!

We do know now that we have a whole new scope of ministry that was not even on the table a year ago.  We had no idea how vulnerable it is to be a foster parent, let alone a foster child in South Africa.

BUT...

Now we know!  Now that we know, we also know we must ACT!

Please keep us in prayer as a couple and a family as we continue to work out what it looks like to be a therapeutic home as there is no other choice when working with previously abused children.  Please pray for our two NGOs www.mercyaids.org and www.resilientkidssa.org.za.
What we need to know now is how to continue to love well and continue to create refuge in the world of our foster children... as that world is a scary one where they really have no value.  Pray for wisdom that we would know when to act, when to speak and when to be quiet.

Please pray as we try to work out how we are supposed to engage in advocacy for all the foster children in South Africa.  There are over 700.000 of them!

A seemingly voiceless community of kids.
